The European bus and coach industry faces an unprecedented workforce crisis. Here's what the data reveals.
105,000 bus and coach driver positions sit unfilled across Europe — representing 10% of the total professional driver workforce. The shortage grew 54% in just one year.
Without intervention, Europe will face 275,000+ unfilled positions by 2028 — a 2.6x increase in just 5 years. The crisis is accelerating, not stabilising.
Less than 3% of bus drivers are under 25, while over 40% are nearing retirement age. The average driver is 50 years old. 53% will retire within 15 years.
Over 80% of European operators report severe or very severe difficulties filling positions. Routes are being cancelled. 75% cannot grow to meet demand.
This isn't a recruitment problem.
